djsets.ro: When was the first time you came to Romania and what was your first impression?
RAHA: 2013.04 Sunwaves. Everyone I met was so friendly from the beginning. And felt what a very long party, and all the people looked like Super man.
djsets.ro: How is Romania perceived from Japan? Before coming here what did you know about it?
RAHA: I started to listen to [a:rpia:r]’s music in Ibiza in 2006.
djsets.ro: What did you do before being a DJ? and how did you decided this is what you want to do?
RAHA: I have been an enthusiastic clubber all my life and it’s same even now. And I started wanting to play my music there as I thought it must be so fun.
djsets.ro: What do you love most about what you do?
RAHA: What I love most is freedom. I never do what I don’t want to do.
djsets.ro: What do you love most about Romania and Romanians?
RAHA: A lot of my European friends tell me Romanians are special. And also, I know so many very nice people/friends here:)
djsets.ro: I read on your biography you used to be a street-dancer in the 90s. Tell me a bit about that. Where did you dance?
RAHA: From early teens I liked black music such as P-Funk, Rhythm & Blues and Hip Hop. I started to go to disco/club when I was 15 and also started to dance naturally. In the beginning I listened to New Wave, High Energy and mainly Black Music. The first Hip Hop record I bought was“Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five – The Message”.
In the 1990s, every year I stayed in New York for 1 month cause all the top street dancers and Hip Hop culture were there, and the city was super exciting. Now I’m always staying in Europe but in those days it was NY for me. What I have been doing in my life is same:) And in Japan I was working as a dancer for a while. But since around‘96, Hip Hop slowly became to be commercial, so I stopped my career of dancer as professional.
djsets.ro: What was the most extraordinary thing that happened to you in your music career so far?
RAHA: I discussed with my friends about where we should be at that moment when the 21st century would begin, and we decided to stay just in front of DJ booth on the main floor of festival in UK. When the time became 00:00 of 2000, everyone hugged with unknown person who was next to, and I did same. At that moment, after saying“Happy New Year!”to each other, the first word I heard in this century from him was,
“Dance music is the best language of the world.”
I will never forget forever the feeling I felt in this moment.
djsets.ro: What are the similarities between Romania and Japan? How about the differences.
RAHA: I have no idea. I’m still studying about Romania. The difference is, Tokyo is nice but it’s the most stressful city of the world, I think.
djsets.ro: How do you feel being on the Danube island, what is the vibe for you there?
RAHA: I went there for the first time last year. Was an amazing location. To be able to arrive there only by boat is very good mood. And I like the point that on the island there are only people who came for this party, and everyone was so peaceful. Looking forward to being there again.
Thanks!
